Women’s Health: Routine Screenings

Hi, I'm Dr. Stacey Sensor. I'm an OB/GYN at Munson Healthcare OMH Medical Group here in Gaylord, Michigan. Thank you for tuning in to this episode of Munson Minutes.

We want women to know that prioritizing their health is crucial. An annual health checkup is always recommended. The types of tests each woman needs will depend on their age, personal and family history, and specific risk factors.

Two of the most important additional screenings for women are mammograms and pelvic exams.

Mammograms

A mammogram is an imaging test performed along with a clinical breast exam to look for early evidence of breast cancer. Women aged 45 and older should be screened every year, or sooner for those with a family history of breast cancer.

Pelvic Exams

A pelvic exam is important to gauge the health of your internal reproductive organs. Your doctor or health provider will recommend how often to have the test based on your age and medical history.

Scheduling an annual exam

Call your primary care provider and schedule your annual exam. Talk to your physician about your family history and the appropriate tests he or she recommends.
